Britney Spears could be heading over to Blighty to make a special appearance on this year’s The X Factor.

Reports say the pop princess will perform her new single Womanizer on the ITV show in December.

‘Everyone is thrilled. To have Britney is a massive coup,’ said a TV source to The Sun.

‘They expect ratings to go through the roof when her performance airs.’

Too right.

If TV bosses do manage to bag Britters then it’ll be her first visit on British soil since her Onyx Hotel tour four years ago.

The X Factor have managed to pull in a host of stars including Take That, Westlife and Kylie but bagging superstar Brit will surely bump it up to whole new level.

Britney Spears Driven to Trial...Almost

We're guessing this wasn't the kind of Circus Britney Spears was thinking of while plotting her vaunted comeback.

A Los Angeles judge today set an Oct. 15 trial date for Spears for driving with an invalid license, E! News confirms.

But there's a chance that trial may yet be averted, with one last preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 8 for prosecutors and the pop tart's lawyers to reach a compromise in the case.

Spears' attorney Michael Flanagan tells E! that the judge has pushed the proceedings to next month to allow more time for all sides to consider their options: go to trial, cut a deal or reduce the misdemeanor charge to a vehicular infraction—the last of which Flanagan has always considered a no-brainer.

Nick Jonas’s New Best Buddy

Nick Jonas has a new best friend: a golden retriever named Elvis. As I look at this picture, I think it’s a fitting name.

The pup was a birthday gift from his family, according to the band’s rep. The youngest member of the Jonas Brothers band, who turned 16 on Tuesday, named the pup for two of his favorite musicians, Elvis Costello and Elvis Presley.

Though the band has been busy working on its upcoming film, Jonas Brothers 3-D Concert Movie (which will open Feb. 22, 2009), Nick still made time for Elvis on Tuesday, taking him for a walk around his L.A. neighborhood.

Paris Hilton’s Dogs Were Eaten by Coyotes?

Contrary to Internet reports, two of Paris Hilton’s dogs were not eaten by a coyote. They’re not only alive, but living better than many humans.

“They were at Paris’s house Wednesday in her recording studio, and all the dogs were playing and looked as healthy and happy as can be,” a rep for the heiress tells PEOPLE. “Paris even had a doggie mansion built for them and it is very secured. ”

Her rep was responding to reports that Hilton, 27, has been crying non-stop due to the dogs’ deaths.

Kate Hudson’s Dating Disaster

Trying to sweep Kate Hudson off her feet? Try taking her out for miniature golf – but whatever you do, don’t be boring.

The actress shared some of her best and worst dating moments Monday at a press conference for her new comedy, My Best Friend’s Girl, opening Sept. 19.

“One date, I just left before we even ordered food because the guy was just so deeply boring that it was like, ‘I’m going to just save us from all of this and just leave,’ ” said Hudson, 29, adding that her date “was in banking. I’m not kidding.”

Instead, the actress suggests other ways to get her motor running.

“I like to be surprised [with] something fun or something different, like racing cars … or miniature golf or something,” Hudson told PEOPLE later at her film’s premiere. “If you’re going to go on a date, do it right, you know?”

Hudson’s romantic life has been star-studded – she was married to Chris Robinson and has been involved with Owen Wilson and Lance Armstrong. But after a tough day on the job, the actress says it’s her family (including son Ryder, 4) and friends that keep her grounded.

“In order to deal with [everything], I just once again go back to my life at home with my family, my son and my friends,” she said. “It makes everything okay. It makes everything feel more balanced.”

Despite reports that Miley Cyrus is dating 20-year-old underwear model Justin Gaston, a Cyrus pal and Miley’s rep say it isn’t so.

“Miley and Justin are just good friends,” said a Cyrus pal. “I doubt her parents would approve of her dating someone five years older than her anyway.”

A rep for the 15-year-old “Hannah Montana” starlet confirmed that rumors of a romance between the two are just that — rumors.

Jonas Brothers think they’ll marry their biggest fan

There’s good news for fans who dream of a future with their favorite Jonas brother. The trio recently took to their MySpace blog and said that they not only date their devotees, they plan to settle down with them one day.

“We have already dated fans or girls that are not celebrities,” the boy band wrote. “In fact, we really like to believe that the girl we will spend our lives with will be our biggest ‘fan.’”

One person who can be crossed off Kevin, Joe and Nick’s list of potential biggest fans is rocker Courtney Love. When TMT asked the former Hole singer what she thought of the Disney stars, she didn’t hold back.

“They’re a bunch of pasty white, completely non-rock and roll, Christian … I can’t stand that s--t!” Courtney said before admitting, “I don’t even know what they sound like.”

Cast thinks ‘90210’ girls are too skinny

New “90210” starlets Jessica Stroup and Shenae Grimes are stirring up plenty of drama onscreen, but it’s their offscreen woes that have their cast mates worried. According to Us Weekly, the already pin-thin actresses are losing weight at an alarming rate.

“(Producers and co-stars) want the girls to gain weight,” an insider revealed. “They are trying too hard to be skinny, and it’s started to wear on them. It’s just not healthy.”

Hoping to help before the problem gets out of hand, concerned cast and crew are said to be planning an intervention of sorts for Jessica and Shenae. “The girls were all skinny when they started, but they’re definitely thinner now,” another insider shared. “I heard some of the boys on the show are going to sit down with the girls and talk to them.”

J.Lo throws an $800,000 birthday party

Just an hour after Jennifer Lopez completed the Nautica Malibu Triathlon (and raised $127,000 for the Children’s Hospital of L.A.), she, her husband Marc Anthony and their 7-month-old twins boarded a plane to New York City.

The reason for the Herculean effort to get back to the East Coast? Lopez was due to throw Anthony an $800,000 Havana-themed 40^th birthday party at the Bowery Hotel later that day.

The party took place Sept. 14, but details are still trickling out. “There was a salsa band and tons of fresh flowers,” one guest told OK! magazine. Also on hand: burlesque artist Dita Von Teese and their pals Leah Remini and Kimora Lee Simmons.

As for reports that Lopez was less than gracious with the staff at the party or the dancers who participated, totally untrue. “She is the sweetest person in the world and she’s at a time in her life when everything is going so great. She was great to everyone at the party,” says a source close to Lopez.

Catherine Zeta Jones' shoe doubles

The Welsh actress - who is married to Michael Douglas - has found a solution to arriving at one of her houses and discovering the footwear she wants is in another continent.

She added: "I have so many pairs of shoes - it's ridiculous. Michael often takes me into my closet and says, 'Could you explain to me why you have all these shoes?' Mackenzie Phillips charged with possession

Mackenzie Phillips was charged Wednesday with felony possession of drugs for allegedly carrying narcotics at Los Angeles International Airport.

District attorney’s spokeswoman Jane Robison said the former teen star was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, heroin and cocaine.

She was arrested last week at the airport after failing a security screening while trying to catch a flight to New York. A secondary search turned up needles and suspected drugs, authorities said.

Phillips’ attorney, Blair Berk, told a judge Wednesday that the actress has entered rehab.

She also faces a misdemeanor count of unauthorized possession of a needle or syringe.

Phillips, 48, is out on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Oct.3.

She is the daughter of John Phillips, founder of the Mamas and the Papas pop group. She was fired from “One Day At a Time” in 1982 for drug-related reasons.

Hulk Hogan claims he’s worth $32 million

Former wrestler had to claim his net worth for his divorce trial.

Hulk Hogan and his estranged wife are wrangling over how much money the celebrity wrestler is worth.

According to financial affidavits filed in divorce court near Tampa, Florida, Hogan claims his net worth is $32 million; his wife claims it’s $26.7 million.

Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, reports that he’s spending $38,000 a month on legal fees. Linda Bollea reports spending $7,000 on clothing, $7,500 on maid service and about $1,700 on jewelry each month.

The couple’s quarreling over money comes as their son, Nick, is serving an eight-month jail sentence for causing a traffic crash that left a passenger permanently disabled.

Five’s Natasha Kaplinsky and ITN’s Mark Austin made the headlines yesterday when an online survey voted them the sexiest newsreaders of all time.

Mark, who recently anchored ITV News’ coverage of the Olympic Games, edged home ahead of silver fox Sir Trevor McDonald and the brooding Dermot Murnaghan, currently on Sky News.

Former Strictly Come Dancing champion Natasha waltzed to a more convincing victory, gaining 25% of the vote. Fiona Bruce, soon to step into Michael Aspel’s loafers on Antiques Roadshow, came second, while veteran high-kicker Angela Rippon took third place.

Despite losing out on the individual honours, the BBC won the team award for all-round attractiveness with a convincing 56% share, ahead of ITV (30%) and Channel 4 (10%)

As well as being a bit of fun, the poll also offers a fascinating insight into modern social attitudes. For instance, 15% of viewers base their news-watching habits on the sexiness of the newsreader, while 33% thought that ratings would “soar” if female presenters wore low-cut tops.

UH-OH! LILY ALLEN’S IN TROUBLE

We told you yesterday how Lily decided to tell a bunch of people at the GQ Awards about her kidnapped pal. Well, now police are none too pleased with the singer for blurting it out.

London’s Met police have put a ban on publicity about the case, which the singer blatantly ignored.

The police have branded Lily ‘appalling irresponsible’ for opening her big gob.

And her kidnapped pal Charlie is also reportedly ‘livid’ with the star.

HURRAH! BRITNEY WILL APPEAR AT THE MTV AWARDS

The rumour mill has been churning for weeks, will she, won’t she but now Britney Spears herself has confirmed that she WILL be at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Hurrah!

The singer said she will open the awards show but sources at MTV said she won’t be performing.

‘MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25^th VMAs?’ said the singer in a statement.

‘I’m excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated.’

MTV Networks Music President Van Toffler added: ‘Britney has done everything from perform with a snake, lock lips with Madonna and prove that what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.

‘I can’t wait to see what she does to kick off this year’s show.’

Well let us just hope that it’s better that last year’s disaster.

Britney is also nominated for three awards – Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for her single Piece Of Me.

UH-OH! AMY ORDERS 48 BOTTLES OF ALCOHOL

It doesn’t sound like Amy Winehouse will be in any fit state to perform at the weekend.

The troubled singer has reportedly ordered a whopping 48 bottles of Jack Daniel’s ahead of her gig at Bestival.

Her demands for the strong spirit have shocked organisers of the three-day festival in the Isle of Wight and prompted new fears over her health.

‘It’s common for artists to make requests for food and beverages before they arrive,’ said a festival source to The Sun.

‘But organisers have heard Miss Winehouse has ordered in an extremely lare amount of Jack Daniel’s, in fact, a ridulous amount that she and her team could not possibly consume during their short stay.’

Wino has a history of failing to turn up to gigs as well as a string of shambolic performances.

‘Everyone is really excited about getting Amy to perform here, and naturally there are now fears she is planning something wild,’ added the source.

‘With Amy’s record this can mean failure to perform or giving a shambolic performance. Whiskey is better than heroin — but not 48 bottles of the stuff.’

YIKES! ANOTHER X FACTOR CONTROVERSY

Just a week after the drama surrounding Alan's foster parent story, X Factor bosses are facing another controversy.

X Factor hopefuls Francine and Nicola Gleadall have reportedly already been in THREE bands and had a record deal.

The blonde twins released two singles and were even on the same bill as judge Cherly Cole’s band Girls Aloud.

The 19-year-old sisters released a cover of Slade’s Cum On Feel the Noize two years ago on But! Records, which is still available in shops.

The pair were put through Saturday’s audition after wowing the judges but X Factor rules ban acts from record deals.

But an X Factor spokesperson told The Sun: ‘We are fully aware of the girls’ past. It doesn’t break any rules as they don’t have a current record deal.’

TEARFUL JADE GOODY VISITS JAILED JACK

Jade Goody made an emotional visit to her banged-up on-off boyfriend Jack Tweed yesterday after he spent his first night behind bars.

Jack, 21, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Monday for attacking a 16-year-old boy with a golf club back in December 2006.

And a tearful Jade showed her support by visiting her fella at Chelmsford Prison in Essex carrying supplies for Jack, including a toothbrush and a razor.

The Big Brother star, who is currently battling cacer, has told pals her life has ‘fallen apart’ since her ‘rock’ Jack has been jailed.

‘My world’s fallen aprt. I thought it couldn’t get any worse after cancer but now they’ve locked up Jack. He’s my rock,’ said Jade to a friend, according to the Daily Mirror.

Jade pleaded to the judge to be lenient with Jack in a letter but her appeals were rejected.

‘Jade hoped the judge would be lenient in the circumstances and was devastated when Jack got 18 months,’ added a pal.

Helen Mirren: I used to ‘love’ cocaine

LONDON - Oscar-winning British actress Helen Mirren said she used to love cocaine, but stopped taking the drug after learning that a Nazi war criminal profited from the trade, according to a magazine.

The 63-year-old, who won an Academy Award for her role in "The Queen," was quoted by GQ magazine as saying she used to dabble in marijuana and cocaine when she was younger.

"I loved coke. I never did a lot, just a little bit at parties," Mirren was quoted as telling the magazine in an interview, which was made available to the media Monday. "But what ended it for me was when they caught (Nazi war criminal) Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon, in the early 80s. He was hiding in South America and living off the proceeds of being a cocaine baron.
