100 Most Beautiful People of 2007

People magazine’s most beautiful people of 2007 have been unveiled, and the lovely Drew Barrymore tops the list as she graces the cover of the magazine’s most recent issue.

The now 32-year-old actress, who’s made the list four times in the past inside the pages of the magazine definitely has natural and classic beauty on her side, but she told the magazine that isn’t what makes her beautiful. No? What is it, then? “I just think happiness is what makes you pretty. Period. Happy people are beautiful. They become like a mirror and they reflect that happiness.”

Well, if happiness is all it takes, why didn’t any of the millions of other “happy” people in the world make the coveted list? Oh, right—you have to be happy and famous to be beautiful.

Barrymore, who this year starred opposite Hugh Grant in Music and Lyrics and stars alongside the hunky Eric Bana (who also made People’s list) in Lucky You, coming out to theaters later this week, has another reason to be happy: she was recently chosen as a real CoverGirl—the cosmetic company’s newest model.

She also claims she feels most beautiful, “right after [she’s] worked out and…sweating all over the place,” she says in People. “I feel like I’ve changed the shape of my body temporarily into something more flexible and strong.” The cover story, which is all about Drew, also features her tips and hints on all things beauty-related, and even dating, on which she has just one basic rule: be yourself. “Let your freak-flag fly, and if someone doesn’t get you, move on.”

Seems like pretty good advice. But would Drew “being herself” have anything to do with the fact that she’s single, and has been twice married, once to a bartender for about a month, and the second time to actor Tom Green, a marriage that lasted about a year?

One interesting feature in this year’s Beautiful People list is that 11 female celebrities—including our cover girl Drew—are featured sans makeup. That’s right—“au naturel” is in. The other featured makeup-less lovelies include American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, Eva Longoria, singer Rihanna, Rashida Jones, Rosario Dawson, Rachel Bilson, and the three Jessicas: Jessica Alba (pictured), Jessica Simpson, and Jessica Biel, who told People: “I find that men, in my past, have preferred me without it [makeup].”

So it appears that happiness helps in the beauty department, but makeup, er, not so much. Seeing some of our favorite female stars without all the glam is a nice change, but at the same time, if you go and pick up a copy of the latest People and find the makeup-free section, you might actually be irked to see that most of them look just as hot without the extra layers and colors! Is life ever fair?

Moving on to the men, besides Bana we’ve got Brad Pitt (of course), George Clooney (another shoe-in), Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Patrick Dempsey (a.k.a. “McDreamy” on Grey’s Anatomy), Pete Wentz (who?—oh, right, the bassist from Fall Out Boy who’s addicted to eyeliner), Zac Efron, R&B singer Chris Brown, and Wentworth Miller (the Prison Break hottie).

Other females who made the list: Angelina Jolie (last year’s cover girl), Jennifer Aniston (guess Brad’s got good taste, both past and present), Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, Alicia Keys, Fergie, American Idol Carrie Underwood, Kate Hudson, Rachel McAdams, Nicole Kidman, and Heroes’ Hayden Panettiere, as well as veterans Julia Roberts and Halle Berry—both of whom have made the list 11 times.

“Old”—or at least over 50—is hot, too—Oprah Winfrey (53), Meryl Streep (57), Susan Sarandon (60), and Helen Mirren (61), who’s the oldest Beautiful Person this year, all made the list.
